What's New: Microsoft Creates Botnet to Find, Fix 1,800 bugs

Microsoft used idle company PCs to run millions of tests against Office 2010 to find and fix over 1,800 bugs. This internal botnet used software installed on company PCs to run tests in the background or during idle periods like nights and weekends. Previously, a tester would set up a PC and run tests lasting several days. Microsoft says the new botnet completed a series of tests in a hour. Some of the bugs found were back tested against Office 2003 and 2007 and included in recent updates to those versions.

Office 2010 is expected to be released in May.
