What's New: Symantec: Phishing, Malware On Rise

A new report from Symantec says that the number of phishing e-mails and malware infections rose significantly in the last half of 2005. The company reports that the amount of malware and related attacks originating in China rose 153%, and while the U.S. still has the most infected computers, the number worldwide will spread as computer ownership expands. Symantec also believes their software blocked 1.5 billion phishing e-mails during the six-month period, up 44% from the first half of the year. The number of Denial-Of-Service attacks, often staged using infected computers, increased 51%, averaging 1,400 per day.
