What's New: New Firefox Version Released

Today Mozilla released version 1.5 of their increasingly popular Firefox web browser. Version 1.5 is the first major upgrade to Firefox since it was released one year ago this month, and adds several new features, including:

  • Automatic updates - security fixes are now smaller and notifications to the user more prominent.
  • Reorder tabs by dragging and dropping.
  • Forward and Back button performance improved via "intelligent caching."
  • Improved popup blocking - from one of the first browsers to include this feature.
  • Improved support for newer web standards such as SVG and CSS3.
  • Improved mangement and installation of extensions.

Since its initial release in November 2004 (following its offshoot from the Mozilla web browser), Firefox has gone from zero to 9% of the Internet browsing market, placing it a firm second behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, which is included with all new PCs.

ITS encourages all our clients to upgrade to version 1.5, or at least give Firefox a try if you are currently using Internet Explorer.
