What's New: Beware of Hurricane Phishes

The tragedy of Hurricane Katrina has already spawned numerous phishing e-mails and trojan sites. Beware!

At least one e-mail making the rounds appears to link to a news article on the devastation, but in reality redirects users to a site that downloads the Trojan-Downloader.JS.Small.bq program to the computer, which then sends out more e-mails.

Phishing e-mails may appear as requests from a charitable organization asking the users to click on a link that will then take them to a fraudulent site that appears to be a legitimate charity. The users are then asked to provide personal information that can further expose them to future compromises.

As a rule,do not follow unsolicited web links received in e-mail messages.
