Following yesterday's strong storms ITS received a flurry of calls for help. Here's what to do to minimize damage to your systems as more storms roll through today.

First, know what to do when the power goes out. Leaving your electronic equipment switched "on" during a power outage is like asking for trouble. If your computer hardware is not operating correctly after power is restored, often powering it off can help.

For preventive purposes, understand the difference between a UPS and a surge protector. The latter will not protect against brownouts, voltage fluctuations, and the like, only surges (lightning strikes), while a good UPS will.
