What's New: McAfee Warns of Cell Phone SMS Phishing

Cell phone users should ignore instant (SMS) messages enticing them to click on links. McAfee has said some users have received messages "confirming" membership in a dating service, with a link to cancel the membership. When clicked, the link downloads a Trojan horse program that allows a web-enabled phone to be controlled by the program's author.

ITS has always recommended users treat unknown communications with suspicion, especially any e-mail or text message that asks for personal information such as account numbers or passwords. Never click on links or respond to spam messages, whether they are on your cell phone or in your inbox.
