What's New: Bill Gates leaves Microsoft

Bill Gates plans to leave Microsoft's day to day operations in July 2008. He will remain the Chairman, while Ray Ozzie, the person credited with designing the revolutionary Lotus Notes groupware, will become Microsoft's Chief Software Architect. In 2008 Gates plans to work full time for the health-and-education foundation he founded with his wife, Melinda.

It will be interesting to watch how Microsoft continues its transition to a software-as-a-service model under new leadership.
