Where can I recycle old PCs and monitors?

As we noted in last fall's article, "2.6 Million Tons of Electronic Waste," it is illegal to throw items such as LCD and CRT (tube) monitors in landfills because they contain toxic substances such as mercury and lead. An easy way to dispose of old equipment is to give it to an ITS employee when we are at your office. For a nominal fee, ITS will take the old hardware away and bring it to a local recycler.

The Computer Take Back Campaign has a lookup on its web site to find a local recycler that meets their approval.
