Symantec took the uncommon step of telling users to stop using older pcAnywhere versions following admission that a recently uncovered source code breach in 2006 could result in compromised systems. Symantec has released patches for pcAnywhere 12.5 versions, but recommends users with any previous version upgrade since those versions are unsupported. Users upgrading to or with 12.5.x need to install updates to be secure. Otherwise Symantec recommends disabling the pcAnywhere host services until an upgrade or uninstallation can be performed.
