Microsoft released a preview of Windows 7 today, the successor to Windows Vista, and explained its five key themes:
- Mobile computing (energy efficiency, security, moving between networks, location-aware printing)
- Services design (focus on core capabilities of the OS, removing client applications for communications and user experience)
- Personalization (Windows 7 will adapt to how users interact with their PC)
- Entertainment optimization
- Compatibility and stability (the goal is to have all Vista-compatible devices work with Windows 7)
A beta release of Windows 7 is planned for early 2009, with general availability in early 2010.
