Microsoft has confirmed they plan to release Windows 7, the successor to Windows Vista, around January 2010. Senior vice president Bill Veghte sent a letter to Microsoft customers Tuesday that mentioned, "a more regular, predictable Windows release schedule" was a primary reason for targeting a January 2010 date, three years after the release of Windows Vista. Microsoft also said that Windows 7 would be based on Windows Vista to help maximize compatibility.
