Is WinZip free?

No. WinZip is a Shareware program. This means you are allowed to try the program out for a limited time to evaluate it, but must legally stop using the program unless you register with the author. Shareware is not free software, rather, it is a distribution method that lowers costs for all involved and allows users to try out software before paying for it.
