Note: this page applies to old account types we no longer offer. We have left it up since it may be helpful for someone, since they get a decent amount of search traffic. All current hosting plans with a control panel use Plesk.

The FrontPage-related limitations that web authors should consider are as follows:
- Recycled or Rebuilt Site
If your web site is recycled or rebuilt under a Windows-based hosting account, your customized site permissions will be reset to the original site permission defaults automatically.
- Web Size
Web size is critical when a searchable event is present in the web (e.g., Search, Discussion Forum, and Table of Contents). The lengthy process of updating the indices for these functions can result in your FrontPage connection timing-out (usually in the form of an HTTP 500 Error or a "Server has timed-out").
- Disk Usage
On UNIX accounts, you can create and publish as many child webs as your disk storage space allows. However, on Windows accounts, you should not create more than five child webs. Adding more than five child webs to a Windows hosting account can cause technical problems with your web site.
Also be aware that, for each child web that you publish, FrontPage duplicates certain information into indices and hidden files. This uses up additional storage space that may be required for your files.
- FrontPage Extensions
If your web site is hosted on a UNIX account, there are several precautions that need to be taken to protect the FrontPage extensions for your web site:
- Do not use the Edit Access features that are found in your Control Panel to set passwords, limit access, set file permissions, delete directories or files in a FrontPage web. Such features should be set or configured only through the options that are located in FrontPage Explorer.
- When FrontPage extensions are installed, do not use regular FTP programs (such as WS_FTP) to upload files to the server. Doing so may corrupt those extensions, disabling the interactive features that are available with FrontPage. The one exception to this caveat regards loading custom scripts to the cgi-local directory on your site. Instructions for uploading custom CGI scripts can be found in the e-mail message that you received when your FrontPage extensions were installed.
- Do not use the Edit Access features that are found in your Control Panel to set passwords, limit access, set file permissions, delete directories or files in a FrontPage web. Such features should be set or configured only through the options that are located in FrontPage Explorer.
