Microsoft today confirmed it is testing a new productivity suite code-named "Albany" to compete with Google Docs and other free software. Albany is based on Office Home and Student 2007, Office Live Workspaces, Windows Live Mail, Messenger, and Photos, and Windows Live OneCare. Office Live Workspaces will allow users to share documents online. Microsoft plans to sell Albany on a subscription basis, though cost and terms have not been decided.
