Starting at just $149, thawte secure certificates are very competitive with 128-bit encryption certificates from VeriSign ($995) and GeoTrust ($169).

Instructions

Custom SSL certificates will work with our Shared Signature, Standard (including Windows and E-Commerce), and Advanced Hosting accounts. If you are not sure what account type you have or have any questions, please contact support.

To start your order or renewal, click here (link opens new window). Please carefully follow the instructions for your hosting account below. In general, the steps are:

• For new thawte certificates only, generate a CSR (certificate signing request) per the instructions below. Be sure to choose the correct web server type.
• For renewal certificates, use your existing CSR.
• Fill out our order form.
• Paste in the CSR code to the appropriate field when ordering your SSL certificate.
• Save your CSR code for use when renewing your certificate.

Shared Signature Hosting Plans

In your control panel, go to the My Website > Add Ons > Digital Certificate page and fill out the form to generate your CSR. Select "Apache-ModSSL" as the web server type.

Explanation of the order form sections you will need to complete:

Intranet Certificate
Generally you should answer "no" to this question unless you are applying for a certificate for a private, internal-only web server.

Additional Licenses
Generally you will need zero additional licenses unless you have multiple web servers hosting the same domain.

Webserver Software
Choose the web server software specified in the instructions for your hosting account, above.

Corporate Contact Details
A person at your company who will be contacted to authorize the order.

Technical Contact Details
This is the person in charge of installing the certificate on your web server. Please contact ITS for the contact details to use if ITS will be installing your certificate.

Company Contact Details
The name and address of the organization being certified.

Background Information
Your organization's classification.

Privacy Protection Password
Enter a secure password. You will need this password to view your order status, renew your certificate, and access thawte's web site.
